COVID-19: UCH CMD CAUTIONS AGAINST SELF MEDICATION.

The Chief Medical Director of the University College Hospital, UCH Ibadan, Professor Jesse Abiodun Otegbayo has advised Nigerians not to be scared by the rampaging Coronavirus.

He said with appropriate policies and measures in place, the pandemic will enter a new phase that will bring relief and succour to the global community.

The UCH CMD  gave the advice while participating on a radio programme in ibadan the Oyo State capital

As at Thursday night, Nigeria has recorded 7016 cases, with 1907 discharged and 211 deaths.

Professor Otegbayo attributed the rising cases to the fact that more people were being tested daily

On the controversial statement that the old popular malaria drug, Chloroquine can cure Coronavirus, the Chief Medical Director cautioned against inappropriate drug use which he says can lead to complications.

The Professor of Medicine and Gastroenterology and Hepatology advised anyone who is sick to seek appropriate medical help from qualified medical personnel.

He commended the Oyo state government for the various proactive steps taken by the Seyi-Makinde administration to curtail the spread of coronovirus and the administration’s policy to make quality healthcare delivery one of its cardinal programmes.

He said UCH has benefitted immensely from the state government’s support, adding that on its own part, UCH has continued to collaborate with the State Task Force On COVID-19.

Professor Otegbayo revealed that in spite of the prevailing situation, the University College Hospital, Ibadan has continued to attend to emergency cases and has provided personal protective kits to its staff while embarking on several preventive measures to ensure  safe  and secured environment.

Prof Otegbayo who later paid a courtesy visit to the BCOS Executive Chairman; Prince Dotun Oyelalade  commended the management of the corporation for not relenting in the onerous task of informing the people through all its radio and television channels across the state.
