The Oyo State Police command has debunked rumor’s making rounds that its officers shot and killed one Husma Akinola Babatunde, a student of The Polytechnic, Ibadan.
In a release by the command PPRO, Adewale Osifeso, the story was fake and misleading as nothing of such ever happened within the command.
“The attention of Oyo State Police Command has been drawn to series of fake and misleading news making the rounds particularly on social media spaces, suggesting the murder of one Husma Akinola Babatunde, aged 21yrs an ND2 student of Banking and Finance, The Polytechnic Ibadan who was allegedly shot while trying to evade arrest.
To set the record straight, on the strength of a distress call received at about 2100hrs on Sunday, 25th of July, 2021 from Palms Mall, Ring Road Ibadan that some suspected cultists/hoodlums invaded the mall premises in pursuit of their target who was shot and later confirmed dead at an unknown hospital, several Police patrol teams reacted swiftly as officers were immediately drafted to the scene, but the perpetrators had escaped before arrival.
Preliminary investigation reveals through; CCTV footages, crime scene analysis, residents and customers scampering for safety at the time, that the shootings were carried out by the hoodlums and not the Police in what seemed reprisal for a cult related fracas.”
The release added that comprehensive investigations are ongoing, and the people of Oyo State should be rest assured that the security architecture of the State remains resolute and fortified daily with intelligence driven upgrade, adding that members of the public should desist from spreading fake and unverified news promising that perpetrators of the dastardly act would soon be tracked and made to face justice.
