AKPABIO, ABASS EMERGE AS SENATE PRESIDENT AND SPEAKER HOUSE OF REPS RESPECTIVELY

Former Akwa Ibom State governor Godswill Akpabio of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has emerged as the Senate President of the 10th Assembly.

Jibrin Barau, senator representing Kano South has also been nominated un opposed as the Deputy Senate President.

Senator Akpabio, who is the preferred candidate of the APC, defeated Senator Abdul’aziz Yari to emerge the new Senate President in a secret ballot exercise held earlier today in the upper chamber of the Nationa Assembly.

He was elected as President of the 10th Senate after scoring 63 votes defeating Yari who scored 46 votes.

The result was announced by the clerk of the National Assembly, Sani Tambuwal who disclosed that 107 senators voted.

Akpabio was nominated by Ali Ndume (Borno) and seconded by Adeola Olamilekan (Ogun).

Yari was nominated by Elisha Abbo (Adamawa) and seconded by Jimoh Ibrahim.

In a similar event in the lower chamber, Hon Tajudeen Abbass emerged as the Speaker of the House of Representatives while Hon Ben Kalu was also nominated to serve as the Deputy Speaker.

Hon Tajudeen Abass won convincinly with 353 votes to beat his rivals Hon Jaji and Hon Wase who both pulled 3 votes each.

With this development Nigerians are now expecting to 10TH Assembly to kick start and put politics behind them and face governance squarely joining hands with the newly elected President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu in moving the country forward.
